7 Experiences Children Will Have at a K-12 Independent Catholic School

Every school has its advantages, but independent Catholic schools often stand out to parents who prioritize both academics and faith. These schools have the unique opportunity to combine traditional learning with religious instruction.

Catholic education aims to form well-rounded students who will go on to become successful adults grounded in their faith. From rigorous academics to faith formation, independent schools in the Catholic tradition like Trinity Academy provide students with unique experiences that are hard to find anywhere else.

All-School Mass and the Rosary

Mass and the Rosary are integral parts of any Catholic’s life, but most Catholic children do not get to experience them as part of their regular school life. Students at Catholic schools enjoy the unique experience of attending Mass with their peers.

Every Friday, Trinity Academy students and faculty members attend all-school Mass or recite the Rosary together. This weekly event brings the whole school together not only to celebrate the Eucharist and the Rosary, but to take part in the community of Christ.

Dedicated Time for Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration time teaches students that the Lord is always present in the Blessed Sacrament and that He always listens to their prayers.

After our all-school Mass, Trinity Academy gives all our students time to pray with their teacher in the chapel before the Blessed Sacrament. This time allows everyone to come together as they pray with the prayers they’ve learned in class and petition the Lord in front of the Eucharist.

Catechism Instruction

At Trinity Academy, we prioritize faith formation as much as we do our academics. Our curriculum includes readings from the scripture as well as the lives of the saints.

Students are provided with the formation necessary to receive and fully appreciate the sacraments. We strive to raise well-informed Catholics who know their faith and are confident in their abilities.

Private catholic schools Provide Rigorous, Traditional Academics

In general, private schools place an emphasis on traditional methods of learning. At Trinity Academy, we provide a high-quality education for all our students.

We ensure that all our students know how to read, write, and perform math at the levels appropriate for their age, and often far beyond that. Trinity Academy students scored better than 96% of students in the nation in reading, grammar, spelling, math concepts, and math computation in the 2021 Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Most students scored consistently ahead of their grade by a year or more.

Our small class sizes and focus on foundational academic skills enable us to ensure that each student gets the help and attention they need to be successful.

Trinity Academy does not use the Common Core or CRT curriculum at any level of the school. Our education is tech-free, emphasizing books and writing in order to promote rigorous cognitive development. We stress the patriotic traditions of the founding fathers of our nation throughout the curriculum and in our school assemblies.

Private catholic schools In Prayer Throughout the School Day

Unlike public schools, Catholic schools can teach their students the power of prayer. At Trinity, we start by teaching our younger students traditional forms of prayer and lead the student body in prayer throughout the school day.

From routine prayers to special devotions, our prayer time helps students get into the habit of praying consistently and shows them that prayer has a place in everyday life.

Private catholic schools Hold Many Catholic Extracurricular Events

Catholic schools typically hold many events throughout the school year, from guest speaker events to seasonal staples such as the Trinity Christmas Program. Trinity Academy also holds an annual Forty Hours Devotion, where we pray for the needs of our school. Our Pro-Life outreach prioritizes the needs of the most vulnerable in society with respect to life.

At Catholic schools, extracurricular events enrich students’ learning in both traditional academic areas and their faith.

Private catholic schools Build a Faith-Based School Community

Independent Catholic schools like Trinity Academy can build communities where faith is supported and part of everyday life. Families are not expected to leave their faith at home, and students can support each other as they grow together.

At Trinity Academy, we create a welcoming and supportive community for our students. This kind of community is essential for a child’s healthy growth and development. We strive to give students a strong foundation and community relationships they can rely on well beyond their school years.

Independent Catholic K-12 schools provide unique academic, religious, and community experiences for their students. At Trinity Academy, we strive to give our students the best educational and faith-filled experiences that any private school has to offer.
